On Thanksgiving I trotted...at the 2008 Virginia Run 5K Turkey Trot that is! It was a great day for a 5K, I think. Cool and dry! I ran with my son, sort of. I mean he ran faster, and finished first. He had an OK run, I think. This was his best official road race 5K. I did OK for me - my best 5K of the year, and I've done three total, and one other as part of a sprint triathlon.
After the running was done, we got some snacks (I had a bagel) and water. One of the sponsors even had Starbuck's coffee - the Pike's Place roast. I had a cup and it was delicious! We were chilly so we headed out. On the way to the car I saw a fantastic woman runner that I had actually gone to high school with. She is so fantastic she won our age group, and she WON overall for women! I never really 'knew' her in school, but knew who she was. I see her a lots of races and finally had the nerve to say hello. She always inspires me to keep plugging along, even though I will never be as speedy as she is. Then we ran into my old boss from work and one of his two daughters that were there running with him. That was fun.
So, overall I placed 20th out of 153 women in my age group. Of course some of those 153 women were probably in the 'walking' group. Oh well. I felt good about my time: 26:08! This was probably one of my top 5 5K times. I also got to use the new "D" Chip that I've been hearing about. A disposable thingy. Pretty cool. I did not even know it was there.
Next stop: eating turkey gravey, courtesy of the friends' house we were invited to for dinner. It was delicous!!
