Staycation Report

Last week I took a 'staycation'! I have never done this before - well not an entire week. I've taken a day here or there...but that doesn't count! I accomplished quite a bit with the help of my younger son. My older son even helped on the weekend before last. This might become an annual habit!

This was my general list going into my week:

Paint laundry room floor

Paint garage

12" x 12" patio blocks for corner of yard

Stain Adirondack chairs (that came from the Adirondacks!)

Weed, put down dirt mixture, then weed cloth for vegetable garden

Clip tall grasses in basketball garden, spray with week killer, cover with top soil, weed cloth, then mulch (There is a basketball hoop base (with the pole and hoop attached) in this garden.)

Take old shed to dump

Leaf clean up - front and sides of house; this also involved pulling lots of weeds

Remove more white rocks - put some under hose bucket

Build up front garden beds - use railroad tie - plant annuals, and mulch entire area - even under bush

Kill all remaining weeds!!!

Get dandelion plunger tool if there is one to attack them in lawn

I got everything done on this list except for removing more of the white rocks, building up the front garden beds, and putting down the patio blocks for the corner of the yard (where the Adirondack chairs now sit). The corner of the yard where the blocks are going down is to be a little 'fire pit' area.

What is not on the list that also got done is:

There is a 10' x 10' area in the back yard where a tree was removed and the stump ground down. Riley has been digging in the area where the stump was. No grass has grown there in years. I moved some dirt around and filled in the hole, put down top soil, put down grass seed, and put up a temporary chicken wire fence. Now grass is growing! I am leaving the temporary fence up a bit longer until the grass is a bit more mature. Hopefully this will discourage Riley from going back there to dig.

Flowers (18 Vinca - my favorite annual) were planted in the basketball garden!

Planted 18 items (4 tomato, 6 pepper, 4 string bean, 2 cucumber, 1 strawberry, 1 cantaloupe) in the vegetable garden!

Pruned my fig tree that was damaged by the crazy winter/spring.

Moved and reassembled a shelf unit in the new shed. Now I have places to store small things in the shed! It's nice to keep stuff off the floor.

Basketball garden - no flowers, yet! (That's the base and pole in the center.)

Garage painting in progress - the power sprayer is the bomb!!
(Still need to paint the ceiling and along the top of two walls, but it is a huge improvement!)

So, it was an incredibly productive week! At least 10 bags of lawn debris went to the curb. And I think that was everything that was taken care of.

Next up: Rock Hall Sprint Triathlon on Sunday! Yikes - my first sprint in almost four years!

Happy and healthy training!
