I'm not sure if it was because I was following the recent Ironman Lake Placid race, or that just enough time had gone by... But I've been bitten by the Ironman bug again! It has been nearly three years since my last race (Wisconsin 2013), and I did three races before that (Lake Placid 2012, Arizona 2011, and Lake Placid 2009).
Now, one Ironman race I've thought would be fun to do was Ironman Chattanooga, which has an extra four miles on the bike, which makes it 144.6 (instead of 140.6). But I was not ready to jump into that just yet. Also, a few friends and I were talking about doing that race together in 2018. I've driven through Chattanooga several times and always thought it looked so lovely! Anyway, in preparation for that long range goal, I just signed up for the Ironman 70.3 Chattanooga for May 21, 2017, which will be a great way to check out part of the course!
The next step will be to get back into a regular training routine. I've been out of the pool for the most part, so I'll need to start getting a couple swims a week in. I actually got back on my bike trainer this week! I do plan to do the Great Pumpkin Ride again in October and will just need to keep up with the biking in the off season. And well, as far as running goes, I have three half marathons this Fall that I am getting ready for.
Another part of the plan is to do Ironman Louisville in 2017! I just found out that Team Z (my old tri team and who I will be doing the swim practices with) will be doing that race next year, so that is pretty cool, too.
One reason for these specific races, outside of doing something different than I already have, is that both locations are close enough to drive to. I always love a good road trip! And my younger son, if still in the Huntsville area, could maybe come to the Chattanooga races as he is way closer to that city than I am.
Ironman, here I come. Again!
Happy and healthy training!
Next up: Lincolnia Super Sprint Tri - because I have to get back in the triathlon game somewhere!!
