Making a difference...

...at least I hope I can.

I recently found out an old high school friend of mine (Debbie) was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS  or Lou Gehrig's disease) about 2 months or so ago. I did not  (and still don't) know a lot about ALS, but I know one definite thing about it. I am not even sure I can type the words here. So, it hit me kind of hard.

Debbie and I ran the 4x400 relay in high school track my sophomore / her freshman year. We were the B relay but we had fun! I even had her over to my house to play this crazy card game with my parents! She couldn't believe they played it, and vice versa. I've not seen her in years but always look forward to her "Friday Food for Thought" posts on Facebook. They always made me stop and think and were often very insightful. I am going to miss those.

Debbie's family has created a Go Fund Me page to help with her medical expenses and assistance until her disability kicks in. If you are interested in helping her directly, please see the donation page for Team Norton here.

I also decided I would try to raise awareness and funds for research by joining the War on ALS through the Blazeman Foundation. You can read about Jon Blais here and the foundation here.

My individual fundraising page can be found here.
